For the second year, RebelBase will be the platform powering the European-funded project called SPINTeams. Starting December 2021, SPIN Teams will use RebelBase to introduce “would-be entrepreneurs”—students and other interested members of five different higher education institutions in Europe—with coaches and mentors to develop spin-off projects.
SPINTeams is a three-year project supported by the ERASMUS+ Programme that provides users with a collection of training webinars to help nurture entrepreneurial coaching. Users range from university students to graduate students, Ph.D. candidates, and researchers.
The platform also offers a handbook, Building Entrepreneurial Support Ecosystems for Higher Education Institutions; a guidebook on mentoring and peer learning methods; and a platform to foster international cooperation, teamwork, networking and mentoring.
SPINTeams has partners in Spain, Latvia, Italy, Austria and Croatia, and its mission is to improve the business skills of would-be entrepreneurs at higher ed institutions and to promote sustainable business practices. The hope is to impact practitioners and the institutions themselves by boosting the effectiveness of start-up businesses and university spin-offs.
“Many start-ups and university spin-offs are founded at European higher education institutions, but they lack sustainability and growth capacity,” according to SPINTeams. “After three years, more than 50 percent of the start-ups fail because of low profitability and growth capacity. The origin of this failure comes from the roots of the start-up foundation: the entrepreneurial and business skills of the founders, their complementarity of skills and those of their teams, their capacity to find supporting networks, difficulties to find an effective start-up support ecosystem, and the capacity of going international.”
While partnering with RebelBase, SPINTeams hopes to bring change and a higher degree of success.
